Q: I am a new homeowner / new tenant on the Schonenberg Estate. How do I organize access to the estate?

A: Your first port of call is the Estate Manager’s office, situated at the Main Gate. The prescribed form Registration / Access Control must be completed by every owner, tenant and their individual family members. Your South African ID card, driver’s license, or international passport will be a prerequisite. You must make sure that you and your family members are properly registered with complete contact information including landline, mobile phone numbers, email address, physical address, and where you may be reached in case of emergency.

It’s important for the HOA management and staff to communicate with you directly. All official written communication from the HOA is sent by way of email or smses to the registered addresses. If a resident’s contact details are incorrect, incomplete or not up-to-date, the HOA cannot be responsible for the lack of communication.

Q: A secure lifestyle is one of the main reasons why I am choosing to live on the Schonenberg Estate. What is being done?

A: Security and safety are paramount to the Home Owners’ Association (HOA) and the Estate Manager is ultimately responsible for upholding security on the estate. To assist him, a security company is employed to carry out all the usual functions to make Schonenberg a secure environment.

Q: What type of security features are in place on the Schonenberg Estate?

A: Security features include:

  • 24 hour, 7 days a week manned security entrances / exits
  • Regular pro-active foot patrols
  • A reaction / rapid response team
  • Perimeter electric fencing and walls
  • CCTV cameras throughout the Estate

Q: How is access to the Schonenberg Estate controlled?

There are only 2 access / exit gates into and out of the estate for both vehicles and pedestrians and both are manned by the security company. Booms are installed in the vehicle approach and there are turnstiles and a swing gate for pedestrian access. Residents have to be registered to receive their own access disk (commonly known as a 'tag') and / or use their own biometric fingerprint, which will operate the access / exit booms and pedestrian turnstiles at both gates. The CCTV surveillance system is computer based and all movements in and out of the estate are logged. Any non-resident has to be officially registered to pass through the gates.

Q: How is the perimeter of the Schonenberg Estate secured?

The perimeter fence consists of a combination of steel palisade fencing and masonry wall. The fence has a fine-strand electric wire situated at the top and infra-red motion detectors installed along the entire fence. Security personnel make regular foot patrols of the perimeter, 7 days a week and CCTV cameras are installed at selected positions along the fence. This electric equipment is monitored 24 hours a day at the security control building.

Q: How does the refuse removal system work?

A: Household waste should be placed in black plastic bags, in a Municipality wheelie-bin, and is collected every Thursday from outside the houses by the estate’s contractor. The waste is taken to Schonenberg’s Waste Transfer Station from where it is collected by the Municipality’s contractor.

Recyclable waste should be placed in the clear plastic bags provided, and is collected every Wednesday from outside the houses by the Municipality’s contractor.

Garden waste, suitable for composting, should be placed in green plastic bags and is collected every Thursday by the estate’s contractor and taken to the on-site nursery.

Please note: put your refuse bags out before 9am on Wednesday and Thursday mornings. New homeowners need to apply to the Municipality for the provision of a wheelie-bin.
