I am a new homeowner / new tenant on the Schonenberg Estate. How do I organise access to the estate?

Your first port of call is the HOA office situated at the Main Gate. The prescribed Registration / Access Control form must be completed by every owner, tenant and their family members. A South African ID card, a valid driving licence, or international passport is a prerequisite. Please make sure you and your family members register your contact details including mobile and landline phone numbers, email address, physical address, and where you may be reached in case of emergency.

HOA management and staff need to communicate with you directly. All official written communication from the HOA is sent by way of email or SMSes to the registered addresses. Suppose a resident’s contact details are incorrect, incomplete or not up-to-date. In that case, the HOA cannot be responsible for the lack of communication.

A secure lifestyle is one of the main reasons why I am choosing to live on the Schonenberg Estate. What is being done?

Security and safety are paramount to the HOA, and the Estate Manager is ultimately responsible for upholding security on the estate. A security company is employed to assist him in carrying out all the usual functions to make Schonenberg a secure environment.

What type of security features are in place on the Schonenberg Estate?

Security features include:

24-hour, 7 days a week controlled security entrances/exits
Regular pro-active foot patrols
A reaction / rapid response team
Perimeter electric fencing and walls
CCTV cameras throughout the Estate

How is access to the Schonenberg Estate controlled?

There are only two access/exit gates into and out of the estate for vehicles and pedestrians, and the security company controls both. Booms are installed in the vehicle approach, and there are turnstiles and a swing gate for pedestrian access. Residents have to register to receive their access disk (commonly known as a ‘tag’) or use their biometric fingerprint, which operates the access/ exit booms and pedestrian turnstiles at both gates. The CCTV surveillance system is computer-based, and all movements in and out of the estate are logged. Any non-resident has to be officially registered to pass through the gates.

How is the perimeter of the Schonenberg Estate secured?

There is steel palisade fencing, which has fine-strand electric wire situated at the top and infra-red motion detectors installed along the entire fence, and a masonry wall. CCTV cameras are positioned at selected sites along the perimeter, and the electric equipment is monitored 24 hours a day at the security control building. Also, the security personnel make regular foot patrols of the border, seven days a week.

Housekeeping

How does the refuse removal system work?

Household waste should be placed in black plastic bags in your municipal wheelie bin and will be collected every Thursday from outside the houses by the estate’s contractor.  The waste is taken to Schonenberg’s Waste Transfer Station, where the municipality’s contractor collects it.

Recyclable waste should be placed in the clear plastic bags provided and will be collected on alternative Wednesdays (per CoCT’s schedule) outside the houses by the municipality’s contractor.

Garden waste, suitable for composting, should be placed in green plastic bags and is collected every Thursday by the estate’s contractor and taken to Schonenberg’s on-site nursery.

Please note: put your refuse/recycling bags out before  8 am on Wednesday and Thursday mornings. New homeowners need to apply to the municipality for a wheelie bin, or you can purchase one from any retailer selling black wheelie bins.
